P-51D Mustang G-SHWN “The Shark”

G-SHWN ble bygd av North American Aviation i juli 1945, og tjenestegjorde i USAAF i flere treningsenheter inntil den ble overført til Canadian Air Force hvor den tjenestegjorde i perioden 1951-1959. Den kom på norske hender i 1980 (Anders Sæther/Scandinavian Historic Flight) som “Old Crow”. Flyet har vært med i flere filminnspillinger,bl.a. Memphis Belle. I 2012 ble flyet solgt av
Nordic Warbirds til en engelsk eier, Shaun Patrick, og er nå på engelsk register som G-SHWN. Flyet er i et nytt fargeskjema, og omtales som “The Shark”«The Shark» tjenestegjorde i No 112 Shark Squadron på Sicilia og i Sør-Italia mot slutten av WW 2. G-SHWN har i dag base på Goodwood i Sør-England. Der benyttes det av Boultbee Flight Academy til event-turer, mens Norwegian Spitfire Foundation opererer det i forbindelse med airshows. «The Shark» har en Packard-bygd Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12/V-1650-7/1700 hk motor, tilsvarende en Merlin 68-motor. Hastighet ca 700 km/t.

G-SHWN was buildt på North American Aviation in July of 1945, and served with the USAAF at several training unites before it was transferred to the Canadian Air Force
where it served in the period 1951-1959. It was bought by Anders Sæther in 1980 and 
painted as “Old Crow”. The Mustang have been in a star in several movies including
Memphis Belle. In 2012 it was sold from Nordic Warbirds to Shaun Patrick. It is now on the English register as G-SHWN. The Mustang sports a new colour scheme, and often referred to as “The Shark”. “The Shark” served with 112 Squadron in Sicily and Southern Italy at the end of WWII. G-SHWN is based at Goodwood in Southern England where it used by Boultbee Flight Academy. The public may go fly in “The Shark”, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
