North American Harvard T-6G S/N 14A-2268, LN-TEX

Maks. hastighet er ca. 330 km/t, mens cruise er ca. 235 km/t.

Norwegian Spitfire Foundation operates a T-6 Harvard which is the same type that many Norwegian pilots had part of their training on during the Second World War. During the war, Norwegian pilots got to know this type of aircraft well, especially during their traning in Canada. Harvard was also in service as a training aircraft in Norway for a period after the war, mainly at the flight school at Gardermoen. In 1955, advanced pilot training was moved to Canada, and the Harvard was phased out of the Norwegian Air Force.

More than 15,000 Harvards were produced, and South Africa was the country that had this type in active service for the longest time – right up until 1995. The Harvard is considered one of the world’s most important training aircraft, and is still highly valued by pilots – for example to those who want to fly types such as Spitfire and Mustang. Harvard is.an aircraft type that helps keep important aviation history alive.

The aircraft is easily recognizable by the very characteristic sound, which is due to the tip of the propeller blades breaking the sound barrier.

This particular North American Harvard, registrered LN-TEX, was built under license by Noorduyn Aviation in Canada in 1944 as a Harvard Mk II. The aircraft have served in the Royal Air Force, the Belgian, Portuguese and German air forces. In 1979, the aircraft was taken over by Scandinavian Historic Flight, as the first vintage aircraft imported to Norway, and was painted in the USAAF silver color scheme. LN-TEX has been based at Kjeller for many years.
