Spitfire PL258 ble første gang omtalt i budsjettsammenheng i Statsbudsjettet 2019-2020. NSF hadde i forkant hatt møter med sentrale politikere på Stortinget, bl.a. medlemmer av Utenriks- og forsvarskomiteen. I en Merknad til budsjettet uttalte komiteen at «med funnet av det norske Spitfire Mk IX-flyet, har Norge mulighet til å få et originalt norsk Spitfire-fly på vingene igjen.» Videre sa komiteen at NSF leder arbeidet med å finne midler til restaurering i samarbeid med bl.a. Forsvarets museer. Komiteen forventet videre at offentlig støtte ville kunne utløse private donasjoner til prosjektet. Det ble imidlertid ikke bevilget midler til prosjektet i dette budsjettet.
I revidert nasjonalbudsjett for 2021, derimot, kom den gode nyheten om at det var bevilget fire millioner kroner til gjenoppbyggingen av flykroppen til PL258.
NSF har hatt en rekke møter med medlemmer av særlig Familie- og kulturkomiteen, men også med medlemmer av Utenriks- og forsvarskomiteen og Finanskomiteen. Gjennom jevnlige e-poster til komité-medlemmene holdes de informerte om utviklingen i Spitfire PL258-prosjektet.
The Spitfire PL258 was first mentioned in a budget context in the Norwegian National Budget 2019-2020. NSF had previously held meetings with key politicians in the Storting (Norwegian parliament), including members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. In a note to the budget, the committee stated that “with the discovery of the Norwegian Spitfire Mk IX aircraft, Norway has the opportunity to have an original Norwegian Spitfire aircraft on its wings again.” Furthermore, the committee said that NSF is leading the work to find funds for restoration in collaboration with, among others, The Defense Museums. The committee further expected that public support would trigger private donations to the project. However, no funds were allocated for the project in this budget.
In the revised national budget for 2021 the good news came that four million kroner (NOK) had been allocated for the reconstruction of the fuselage of PL258.
NSF has had a number of meetings with members of the Family and Culture Committee in particular, but also with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and the Finance Committee. Through regular e-mails to the committee members, they are kept informed of developments in the Spitfire PL258 project.
